Chinese Medicine, Irritable Bowel Syndrome & the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Keeping with the previous post on the blog.  We present the following randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial that was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.  In the trial patients were given either a placebo, a formula that was individualized for the patient’s condition based upon Traditional Chinese Medicine Principles, or a standardized “patent” medicine.  Both the individualized and the patent medicine groups out performed the placebo.  The conclusion was that herbal medicine improves Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms.  The editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association was fired after publishing the study.

At our office we use the formula listed in the article and we also individualize the treatment of patients who have Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
